The Emory PA Program will host 4 public open house events in 2025 on the following Fridays from 3 – 6 pm EST.  January 31 and February 28 in the 1462 Building, second floor classroom 230, and the  final two events in the main lobby lecture halls of the James B. Williams Medical Education Building

Clinical Opportunities: Addiction Psychiatry Observership


 Up to10 students will be selected to participate in this immersive observership week over spring break at the Emory Addiction Center at Wesley Woods, just off of the Emory main campus. Students will spend Monday through Friday learning about addiction psychiatry as a medical specialty. The program includes physicians, nurses, therapists, families, patients, and alumni speaking to students as a group and providing a holistic understanding of the complexities and rewards of this field by sharing their unique perspectives. Students will also have the opportunity to learn directly from Addiction Psychiatrists and receive naloxone training.

Emory Community: A Moderated Dialogue on Overdose Response in Communities


 A Moderated Dialogue on Overdose Response in Communities

Please join the WHSC Library on Friday October 25th at 5:30 pm in the Whitehead Auditorium
Sarah Febres-Cordero, faculty member of the Emory University School of Nursing, and sequential artist Joseph Karg, Assistant Professor of Illustration and Sequential Art, Kennesaw State University, and Andy Gish, board certified emergency nurse and overdose prevention educator will present a moderated discussion about their graphic novel "Staying Alive in Little Five." The conversation will focus on Febres-Cordero's research and experiences in place-based overdose recognition and response, as well as Karg's visual approach to bringing these experiences to life. Clint Fluker, senior director of culture, community and partner engagement for the Michael C. Carlos Museum and Emory Libraries will moderate the discussion. There will be an opportunity at the end of the presentation to ask questions.  Attendees will receive a copy of the graphic novel.
The discussion will be followed by a reception steps away from the auditorium at the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library
A hands-on naloxone (Narcan) demonstration will be held after the reception.

Emory Community: AHA BLS/CPR Certification


 HeartStart Emory is a new organization on Emory's campus focusing on Basic Life Support certifications on Emory's campus at a significant discount. We'll be hosting regular American Heart Association certified classes on Fridays and Saturdays moving forward, but we want to invite you to our first certification events on Friday October 4th and Saturday October 5th! ONLY ONE CLASS IS REQUIRED, YOU WILL NOT NEED TO ATTEND BOTH. Time and location vary between dates - please confirm on the Google form.

Emory Community:Creative Resilience: How Three Centuries of Pandemics Influenced the Arts



In partnership with Emory Woodruff Health Sciences Center and Grady Health System, The Atlanta Opera presents a community conversation: “Creative Resilience: How Three Centuries of Pandemics Influenced the Arts,” a panel discussion exploring the impact on performing artists of three pandemics over three centuries. The event will take place on Saturday September 21st from 4 – 5:30 PM at the Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University.

 

Panelists include Dr. Carlos del Rio, Distinguished Professor of Medicine, Infectious Diseases at Emory University School of Medicine; Eric Paul Leue, Vice President of HIV Services at Ponce de Leon Center of Grady Hospital; Dr. Stefan Goldberg, Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University; Dr. Jodie Guest, Senior Vice Chair, Department of Epidemiology at Emory University; Tomer Zvulun, the Carl W. Knobloch, Jr. General & Artistic Director at The Atlanta Opera; and Lois Reitzes, Program Host at WABE-FM “City Lights.”
This community conversation supports performances by The Atlanta Opera of Jonathan Larson’s Broadway rock opera, Rent, and the beloved opera that inspired it, Giacomo Puccini’s La bohème. Performances Sep 18 – Oct 6 at Pullman Yards.
