Employment Opportunity: Project Coordinator The Free Diabetes Clinic in Clakston



Position: Project Coordinator 

Supervisor: Dr. Saria Hassan 

Pay: $15 an hour 

Timeline: May 10-August 10 (with opportunity to extend into fall semester) 

Description: 

The Free Diabetes Clinic in Clarkston offers comprehensive diabetes services to persons with Diabetes in Clarkston. Clarkston is known as the most diverse square mile in the US, home to many refugees and immigrants. We cater to mainly uninsured and foreign-borne individuals living in Clarkston and the greater Atlanta area. 

The clinic is held twice a month (first and last Wednesday of the month) from 9am-noon. The team consists of physicians, a diabetes educator, and a team of interpreters. The clinic is in collaboration with Grace Village Medical Clinic (GVMC). 

The role of the project coordinator is critical and entails the following: 

  1. Scheduling patients for each clinic 
  2. Arranging transportation when needed for patients to attend the clinic 
  3. Coordinate any post-visit items that need to be addressed – subspecialty referrals for example 
  4. Document clinic visit notes in our shared, secure, file 
  5. Work closely with staff at GVMC 
  6. Familiarize yourself with the GVMC patient tracking system for updated information 
  7. Take referrals from various clinic in Clarkston and add them to list of patients to be scheduled 
Project coordinator would be hired as a student employee and paid $15 per hour. The time needed is usually 15-20 hours a week the two weeks that we hold clinic. Other weeks it is about 5 hours a week. Opportunities to engage in associated research project available. 

Appreciated but not required: ability to take blood pressure, heart rate, and fingerstick blood sugar. 

Desired skills include: 

  • Project coordination experience 
  • REDcap familiarity 
  • Experience working with the refugee/immigrant population 
  • Ability to think outside of the box to overcome last minute challenges 
  • Flexibility given changing needs of patients 
  • Basic clinical skills to triage a patient (not required)
