Summer Opportunity: UNC Chapel Hill campus, Science Enrichment Preparation Program

UNC Chapel Hill campus, Science Enrichment Preparation Program

Held each summer on the UNC Chapel Hill campus, the S.E.P. Program is an eight-week, honors-level academic enrichment program that targets first-generation, underrepresented minority, rural, and/or socioeconomically disadvantaged undergraduate students (rising sophomores and juniors) who seek admission into Medical School or Dental School.  Over the course of the eight-week program, S.E.P. Scholars take coursework in Physics, Organic Chemistry, Human Physiology and Mathematics.  In addition to the coursework, they participate in a Kaplan MCAT or DAT course (depending on their pathway of choice), network with Admissions Committee Members, current health professional students and participate in pre-dental and pre-medical exposure opportunities.

Please visit the S.E.P. website at Science Enrichment Preparation (S.E.P.) Program | NCHCAP (unc.edu) to learn more about the program and share across your student networks.  The program deadline has been extended and we are positioned to increase the number of students in the 2023 cohort.  The revised deadline is May 1, 2023.  The program provides free on-campus housing, a stipend, and educational supplies.  At the conclusion of the program, S.E.P. Scholars will earn a transcript and the transcript may be uploaded to every Medical or Dental School they apply.

Please encourage your students to apply and have them contact me via email to express their interest.  Immediately following, I will share the modified application process.  Competitive applicants must:

  • Be a rising undergraduate sophomore or junior.
  • On the path to earning a MD or DDS.
  • Earn a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Taken a minimum of 3hrs in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Thank you in advance for your time and partnership.  Should you have questions, please contact me via email or call (919) 966-2264.
