Gap Year Opportunity: Patient Service Coordinator- ORA Vision


The role of Patient Service Coordinator is the first impression into our boutique ophthalmology practice and surgery center, ORA Vision. We treat medical eye disease and perform advanced cataract surgery in a new, state of the art facility. We love helping our patients "See Brilliantly" so they can "Live Freely". We are located in a beautiful shopping plaza above a Trader Joes in Peachtree Corners, GA which is 15 minutes north of Atlanta.

We are looking for highly personable, responsible, and motivated team members to join our practice for 1-2 years (ideally 2-year position with a 1-year minimum). The applicant does not need to have health care experience but does need to be a people-oriented learner with strong written and verbal communication skills and a willingness to teach others. We are a small, patient-oriented practice with a family vibe. Everyone is very nice and proactive in teaching others new skills. 
Responsibilities
Clinical Patient Care
•Perform ophthalmic diagnostic testing
•Complete patient history and intake
•Perform ocular vitals signs: check vision, eye pressure, pupils, ocular motility, and pupillary dilation
•prepare patients for office procedures
•Assist the doctor in the room with procedures
•Scribing
•Patient counseling of treatment plan
Operating room
•Complete history for surgery
•Complete surgical sign-up process
•Prepare patients for surgery in pre-op area
•Sterile processing of clinic and surgical instruments
•Operate diagnostic in the operating room
•Assist with pre- and post-operative patient care 
Admin
•Greet patients and assist them with our electronic check-in system
•Answer phones
•Schedule patient appointments in the electronic health record
•Verify insurance

•Communicate with patients via phone and email
•Manage our emails and faxes
•Run productivity reports
•Help with social media
Teach other team members

Qualifications
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Phone etiquette
•Ability to use Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and Office
•Bonus qualifications: Spanish fluency, customer service experience, medical front desk experience, Canva, social media experience, video editing

The position is ideal for those interested in medical careers looking for hands-on gap year opportunities in medicine in Atlanta. In my current practice, I am offer a very, unique opportunity for pre-health students to have hands-on experience in medical administration, clinical patient care, and in the operating room.  In the past 3 years at my new practice, I have had 6 gap-year students from Vanderbilt, UGA, and GA Tech:
•One completing second year of medical school at William Beaumont in Detroit
•One completing first year of Medical College of Georgia and whom I have helped secure a summer research internship at Emory
•One currently working, accepted to Medical College of Georgia and starting first year of medical school in July
•One currently working and applying to medical school this cycle
•One currently working and applying to optometry school this year
•One whom worked as summer intern and is now coming back for a gap year opportunity in June
This position is a paid position with paid holidays and time off, opportunity for quarterly bonus, paid uniforms, and lots of fun team activities. Working above a Trader Joes is also a bonus!
