Thursday, October 20 at 9:00am EDT The Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics at Emory University will host a live webinar as a part of the Third Annual Juliet E. Shield Symposium on Compassion. Dr. Shams Syed, Unit Head of Quality of Care for the World Health Organizations (WHO) Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland will present on “Compassion: An Engine for Primary Healthcare.” Dr. Syed presents widely about the benefits of intertwining compassion with quality care, which research by the WHO has shown to yield effective, safe, and people-centered care. During a keynote presentation at the Taskforce for Global Health in January 2020, he reflected that, “Health systems are at a breaking point and a critical transformation is needed, from health systems designed around single diseases and health institutions towards health systems designed for people, with people.” Compassion is at the center of this critical transformation toward people-centered care.
