Winship Cancer Institute Virtual Summer Undergraduate Program

 


EMORY HEALTHCARE SYSTEM VIRTUAL SUMMER STUDENT PROGRAM 2021

The Emory Healthcare System (EHC) Virtual Summer Student program is an 8-week program geared towards High School and Undergraduate College students.  This program will have participants from all Emory Healthcare Hospitals, Winship Cancer Institute, and The Emory Clinic.  All program participants will participate in a minimum of 10 virtual and interactive webinars with healthcare professionals (clinical and nonclinical) across the Emory Healthcare system.  The summer program will run from June 1st – July 31st.

 

VIRTUAL SESSIONS

Below, you will find a list of some of the great interactive virtual sessions that are confirmed and will be offered.  A full complete list of sessions will be provided to all accepted participants. 

·         Cancer Biology 101

·         Understanding Cancer Treatments

·         A Patients' point of view: An in depth conversation with a panel of cancer survivors & caregivers.

·         A day in the Life of a Proton Therapy Patient – A virtual tour and treatment experience of the Emory Proton Therapy Center

·         Emory University School of Nursing Simulation Center:  A live interactive simulation & Q&A Session

·         The Physician Group Practice (PGP) Patient Experience Team: Patient Experience in the Ambulatory Setting

·         Robotic Surgery demo & behind the scenes tour of cardiac OR

·         And MANY more!

 

VIRTUAL SERVICE OPPORTUNITY:

As part of the EHC system Virtual Summer Student Program, Winship will also offer its program participants an opportunity to develop and implement a virtual service project.  Participants will be broken up into groups and the virtual service project will be created to benefit Winship patients and/or staff.

 

SERVICE HOURS

Service hours will be granted for all attended zoom sessions.  Sign up and registration will be required for each webinar, along with the completion of a post survey in order to verify attendance. In addition, service hours will be granted for the planning and implementation of the virtual service project. 

 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

·         Applicants must be an undergraduate college student.

·         Attend program orientation, as well as the closing ceremony at the end of the program

·         Weekly webinars will be available. However, all participants are required to attend a minimum of 10 webinars over the course of 8 weeks.

·         Working with a group, create and implement a virtual service project that will benefit staff and/or patients
