Conflicts of Interest in Healthcare Symposium

As you may well know, conflicts of interest and bias surface at the individual and institutional levels throughout the healthcare ecosystem. There may be monetary rewards, political pressures, competitive pressures, job security stresses, unconscious biases, or other issues that lead to decisions that may not be in the interest of the common good. That's why next week's colloquium Conflicts of Interest in Healthcare: Opportunities for Self-Reflection and Action is so important.

This event brings together leaders in the bioethics field as well as leading science and medical professionals, committed to an action-oriented conversation around conflicts of interest. Some speaker highlights:

  • Deborah Birx, MD, former White House Coronavirus Task Force Coordinator under the Trump administration
  • Rick Bright, PhD, former head of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA)
  • Michael Osterholm, PhD, MPH, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota
  • Howard Bauchner, MD, Editor in Chief of the Journal of the American Medical Association
  • Arthur Caplan, PhD, professor of bioethics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine
  • Dominique Brossard, PhD, professor of life sciences communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
  • Otis Brawley, MD, professor of oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
  • Plus a keynote speech given by James Sheehan, JD, of the New York State Office of the Attorney General
