Johns Hopkins Indigenous Populations Healthcare Volunteering

Indigenous Students at Johns Hopkins University is looking for students and organizations to volunteer to assist in collaboration between the Center for American Indian Health, Indian Country Today, and several other institutions across the nation on a much needed COVID-19 resource for American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

The Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 case tracking serving as a go-to-reference for so many around the world do no currently display cases occurring specifically in Indian Country. Many American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) communities are being hit hard by COVID-19, but those numbers are often lost, unrecorded, and unincluded when recording case incidence. This leads to a critical loss of visibility. We are working with the Johns Hopkins team managing the case tracking to highlight AIAN cases and tribal land and have partnered with Indian Country Today to begin their own grass-roots efforts to source and supply this data. They have such great relationships with tribal communities, are highly visible, and started the data collection at the ground level.

They cannot do this alone, and are looking to recruit volunteers to help track cases of COVID-19 on tribal lands. If interested, fill out this application form: [http://jhsph.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8koIRdXBJfCaRJX]. Volunteers will be trained on how to track cases and report them and will be an integral part of the collaboration.

Anyone with questions regarding the project, commitment, hours, etc. can contact Joel Espinoza directly at jespino8@jhu.edu.
