Emory Surgery Research Opportunity

Interested in medicine, surgery, and education and want to help shape the future of surgical education? The Emory School of Medicine Department of Surgery is seeking students to assist on their research project studying operating room behaviors and how that affects intraoperative educational opportunities.

They need student volunteers to observe real cases in the OR and record their observations using the OpTrust tool - a way of measuring how much autonomy a resident gets to complete portions of the case independently. Volunteers will be trained on everything they need to know to participate.

Becoming an OpTrust rater involves participating in a few online training sessions. Then, once you are certified, you can observe cases in the OR on your own - each for at least 1 hour after the first incision is made.

As an OpTrust research assistant, you will gain hands-on research experience with opportunities for authorship in associated abstracts and publications; work with faculty and residents in the Department of Surgery; and build your CV for medical school, graduate school, or residency applications.
