Sunrise Day Camps, the world’s only dedicated day camps for children with cancer and their siblings provided completely free of charge, is looking to hire individuals to fill their summer positions. Sunrise Day Camps bring the simple pleasures of childhood back to children struggling with cancer, changing months of loneliness and isolation into summers filled with sunshine, laughter and happiness. And because Sunrise is a day camp, it does all this while allowing the children to continue their medical treatment and enjoy the comfort and safety of their own homes at night.
Sunrise Day Camp is seeking individuals who are mature, responsible, energetic, and
excited to make a tremendous impact in the lives of children.
Sunrise Day Camp hires individuals as counselors, supervisors, and
specialists. Their specialty areas include sports, art, music, yoga,
dance, cooking, golf, science, and many other areas. Their staff works
with children between the ages of 3 1/2 - 18 for up to eight weeks.
Staff positions commonly involve being with children for the full length
of the camp day, from camper arrival at 9:30 in the morning until 3:45
in the afternoon. Because the camper population may have greater
emotional and physical needs, and because staff stays in close proximity
with the campers, the experience is demanding. It is critical that
staff members are attentive to children, their individual needs and
concerns, and demonstrate a willingness to do more than his or her
share.
Sunrise operates 5 camps in the United States: Long Island (NY), Pearl River (NY), Staten Island (NY) , Horizon Day Camp in Baltimore, MD, and Aurora Day Camp in Atlanta, GA. This year's camp season runs from Thursday June 27th to Friday August 16th, 2019. There are mandatory orientations/trainings throughout the month of June (dates TBD).
