Description:

The Upper Extremity Division of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Emory is seeking an entry level clinical research fellow to join our team. This team is one of the most productive research teams in the country, publishing 30+ peer reviewed publications a year. The goal of this fellowship is to both strengthen and broaden their research experience while bolstering their CV for medical school or residency. Working directly with multiple Upper Extremity Orthopaedic Surgeons at Emory, we anticipate the fellow will obtain numerous peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international conferences. The ideal candidate will be very self-motivated, responsible for maintaining investigator initiation clinical trials, enrolling and collecting information from clinical trial participants, communicating with Emory's IRB, monitoring/maintaining progress of the department’s longitudinal research projects, and learning to design and carry out their own projects and manuscripts. Improved skills in IRB writing, study design, grant writing, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and podium/poster presentations should be expected. Dr. Michael Gottschalk, the Director of Clinical Research for the Department of Orthopaedics, and Dr. Eric Wagner, Director of Upper Extremity Surgery Research, will work directly with the fellow throughout the two years.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Maintains study procedure documentation for completeness and accuracy

• Recruits, screens, and enrolls potential study patients including

• Administers tests and questionnaires according to research study protocols

• Assists with data entry, cleaning, and analysis

• Monitors study participants as required by study protocol (i.e. maintain subject tracking logs for clinic visits)

• Attends regular team meetings to report on status of research activities

• Delegates and coordinates with medical students, residents, and fellows to facilitate study progress

• Writes and edits materials for publications, posters, and presentations

• Facilitates manuscript and presentation submissions

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree

• Interest in medicine, specific interest in Orthopaedic Surgery is preferred

• Ability to join the team for a minimum of 2 years

• Detail oriented with high attention to accuracy, strong work ethic, excellent organization skills, and self-motivation

• Ability to delegate tasks and stay organized with all ongoing projects

• Familiarity with research study protocols and Institutional Review Board preferred
