Summer Opportunity: Empower Through Health- Global Health Experiential Fellowship

We are reaching out with a research opportunity for undergraduate students interested in global health. Empower Through Health, a 501(c)3 organization working to innovate healthcare delivery in rural areas of low-income countries, is hosting the Global Health Experiential Fellowship in summer, 2023. It is an opportunity to receive research mentorship from global mental health practitioners at Yale University and to live and work alongside Ugandan undergraduate and master’s level students implementing a research project in the rural village of Mpunde, Eastern Uganda. Research projects will consist of exploring ways to reduce stigma and to improve mental health care delivery.

The program consists of five-weeks of immersion in rural Uganda, and fellows will have the option to continue their work after the fellowship to contribute to the data analysis and manuscript-writing process, leading students receiving co-authorship on the manuscript once it is published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. This is an opportunity for students to develop transferable skills that will be valuable regardless of career path, but particularly for those interested in pursuing scientific research, medicine, or public health

Attached are the 2023 Global Health Experiential Fellowship Application, the 2023 GHEF Syllabus, a GHEF Advertising Flier, and a Google Drive Folder containing more information about the program.

Clinical Opportunity: Harriet Tubman Women's Clinic

The HTWC leadership team is currently looking to onboard four clinical Undergraduate Coordinators. We are switching up the make-up of our undergraduate clinical volunteer team such that those who we onboard now and in the future serve as both MAs and as a coordinator of a specific aspect of MA duties.

MA training will be done on-site for each role (from March-August 2023), so an MA certification is not necessary in order to apply. NOTE: Logistical requirements for all coordinator positions include the following:
  1. You must be in Atlanta and available to serve in your role from March 2023 - end of December 2025 (2.5 year commitment!). Summers are optional with the exception of this upcoming summer (May 2023 - end of August 2023)during which you must be able to complete training and come to the clinic in-person to do so.
  1. You must be fully vaccinated (including booster shots) and be able to provide proof of vaccination by the end of March 2023.
  1. You must be able to provide yourself with a reliable form of transportation to get to and from the clinic for training sessions and shifts (this can be a car or just means that you are willing to uber/lyft if no other volunteers are available to give you a ride).
The Undergraduate Coordinator positions that are open for applications are as follows:
Responsible for ensuring proper MA staffing on all clinic days, communicating with MAs about their shifts, finding alternates in case of emergency, and creating shift schedules based on MA availability.
The application for all 4 Undergraduate Coordinator positions is linked here, and is due Fri. March 3rd at 11:59PM. Don't hesitate to reach out with any questions!

Volunteer Opportunity: Interpreter at MCG Asian Clinic (remote)

Hello! My name is Alisha Patel, and I am an Emory Alum in my first year at MCG! I am a clinic coordinator of MCG Asian Clinic, a student-run clinic that offers primary care services to uninsured and low-income patients of the Asian community in Augusta. As we frequently serve patients with limited English proficiency, we are recruiting volunteer interpreters to remotely assist with our appointments. We are primarily recruiting Vietnamese, Chinese, Hindi, and Korean interpreters, but you are still more than welcome to reach out if you speak an Asian language not listed above!

As a volunteer, you will be interpreting remotely in real-time during patient appointments. Clinic is usually held on the last Tuesday of each month, from 5-8 pm (the number of appointments you have to interpret for will vary for each month). If you are interested in working with the underserved population, this is a wonderful opportunity to play a significant role in patient care, while working closely with medical students and the attending physician!
